Case Study #1

Introduction

In the spring of 2019, I participated in the course, Education 746: Diagnosis and Evaluation of Reading Difficulties. We were given the opportunity to learn how to use the Qualitative Reading Inventory (QRI) Assessment. We were then able to take that learning and complete a Mini-case Study/QRI Analysis and Report with a student with reading needs. I was required to show that I could proficiently administer and score the QRI Assessment and any other additional assessments I completed with the student. Additionally, i needed to provide instructional recommendations that reflected a deep understanding of reading skills and interventions and address both strengths and areas for improvement.

Reflection

I completed this case study QRI analysis and report with a one of my fourth grade students, Rayonah. Completing this case study with Rayonah allowed me to practice and become familiar with the Qualitative Reading Inventory (QRI)Assessment. I was also able to see how the other reading, writing, and spelling assessments I had completed with Rayonah all aligned with the new information and data I got from the QRI. I learned how to take information from my assessments to suggest appropriate reading intervention and accommodations that would benefit Rayonah. Finally, since Rayonah's IEP meeting took place right after this case study was due, I was able to bring it to the IEP meeting to share the information and results with the family.
